Rudgwick Fight Back to Secure First League Win in Bosham Thriller

Andrew Whitworth30 Aug - 20:17

Rudgwick come from 2-0 down to secure first points

Rudgwick recorded their first ever Southern Combination Football League Division Two victory with a stunning 4–2 comeback away at Bosham. The visitors, backed by sponsors Hotelcare and Darchini Horsham, overturned a two-goal deficit to take all three points in an entertaining and hard-fought encounter.

Bosham took the lead after just four minutes with a finish from Emanuel Diafaga. Things got worse for Rudgwick midway through the first half when Jack Hancock converted a penalty, with goalkeeper Tim Wrenn unable to stop the Reds making it 2–0.

Despite the early setback, Rudgwick showed growing confidence and pulled one back before half-time. In the 36th minute, Max Furber rose highest to meet Matt Blogg’s cross and powered in a header to reduce the deficit to 2–1 going into the break.

Manager Kieran Holmes made a tactical change at half-time, introducing Kai Oram for Joe Berwick, and it paid dividends. Rudgwick grew stronger as the match progressed, and in the 68th minute, they drew level when Oram curled a well-placed free kick into the top corner after Bryan Manso had been fouled.

Bosham almost regained the lead through a smart header from Frankie Robertson, but Wrenn produced an excellent save to keep the score level. At the other end, Devontee Williams had a golden opportunity to put Rudgwick ahead, but dragged his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

Williams did not have to wait long to make amends. In the 79th minute, he latched onto a clever pass from Zac Bown, showed great strength to hold off his marker, and fired into the bottom corner to put Rudgwick in front for the first time.

The win was sealed deep into stoppage time. Furber led a break and unselfishly squared the ball to Oram, who made no mistake with a composed finish to make it 4–2.

It was a deserved victory for Rudgwick, built on second-half composure, tactical adjustments, and standout performances, not least from Man of the Match Bryan Manso, who controlled the midfield throughout.
