Rudgwick delivered a ruthless first-half performance to claim a dominant 4–1 win over Brighton Electricity at King George V Playing Fields, with Zach Bown netting a hat-trick and earning Man of the Match honours in front of 63 spectators.
From the outset, Rudgwick looked sharp, and their attacking intent paid off in the 19th minute. A clever ball from Harry Batley released Jay Bicknall, who showed composure before squaring to Devontee Williams. Williams placed his shot into the far corner, giving the hosts an early lead.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 37th minute. After a midfield turnover, Joe Berwick launched a quick counter, feeding Zach Bown who muscled through the Brighton defence and finished into an empty net.
Just four minutes later, Bown produced the game’s standout moment. Zach Maunder won a header in the centre circle, and Bown reacted first, spotting the goalkeeper off his line and audaciously lobbing him from 35 yards to make it 3–0.
Rudgwick capped off a ruthless half in the 44th minute. A dangerous cross from Williams was flicked goalward by Bicknall and turned in at point-blank range by Bown, completing his first-half hat-trick and sending Rudgwick into the break 4–0 up.
Brighton Electricity responded in the second half, pulling one back in the 56th minute through Lucas James Hardy, but the damage had already been done. Rudgwick managed the remainder of the match professionally, making full use of their bench to control tempo and avoid unnecessary risks.
Substitutions included Simon Lockwood with Harry Batley making way at half time, Josh Gains replacing Bicknall, and Bryan Manso and Kai Oram entering the fray on 66 minutes for Berwick and Williams respectively. Adam Kemp was introduced late on to give Bown a well-earned rest after his decisive contribution.
Match official Neal Saxton oversaw proceedings with keeping close control of the game. The performance marked a strong statement from Rudgwick, showing attacking depth and composure across the pitch.
